Women's Basketball battles Phoenix College on Sophomore Night

No. 6 MCC Women's Basketball will host Phoenix College in their final regular season home game on Saturday afternoon as they also celebrate Sophomore Night.

The Lady T-Birds come into action on Saturday holding a 22-5 record (17-4 ACCAC). Mesa has won four of their last five and are coming off a 71-37 victory over Chandler-Gilbert last Saturday. 

Phoenix College holds a 6-21 record (5-16 ACCAC) as they have won just one of their last four but are coming off a thrilling 44-38 victory over Chandler-Gilbert on Wednesday.

This will be the third and final match between the two teams this season, MCC has taken both games so far. On Dec. 13 Mesa won their first meeting 84-36 and on Feb. 7 the T-Birds took it to the Bears and came out with a 67-32 win.

T-Bird Sophomores:

Mackenzie Shivers:

Shivers has averaged 10.4 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 3.2 APG in her two seasons as a T-Bird. 

Jana Solee:

Solee has averaged 3.3 PPG, 2.1 RPG, and 1.2 APG in her two seasons in the MCC Red.

Miquedah Taliman:

In her two years at MCC, Taliman has averaged 7.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 2 APG.

Zari Watkins

Watkins has had her time on the court limited at Mesa due to injury, but she is still an important piece to the T-Birds, helping encourage her teammates and bringing passion and energy to games.

Kamiyah Hurd:

Hurd is a Redshirt Freshman but will be honored on sophomore night. In her solo year on the court for Mesa, Hurd has averaged 6.9 PPG, 5.3RPG, and 1 APG.

Jaida Brooks:

In her singular season as a T-Bird Brooks has scored 315 points so far this year. Brooks averages a team high 12.1 PPG, to go along with 3.3 RPG, and 4 APG.

In addition to the action on the court, MCC Student Support Foundation will be selling concessions to raise funds for student emergency financial assistance and other college expenses. The MCC Disc Jockey program will also be in attendance, jamming out and raising the energy for the crowd and players. 

The game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. and will be streamed on T-Birds Sports Live.
