Final regular season basketball tonight on Black History Month Recognition Night

It's the final regular season home games of the year for Mesa basketball as they take on Glendale on Black History Recognition Night at MCC basketball.

The celebration will include halftime performances by Pretty Precise Step Team, BSU club recognition, and fun giveaways!

As for the basketball, it is a must-win situation for the T-Bird women as they push for the No. 1 seed at the Region I, Division II tournament. That event begins Wednesday, March 2, at the two top seeds home courts with the championship following on Saturday, March 5 at the home of the highest remaining seed.

If MCC wins tonight, it will set up a showdown with Pima Friday in Tucson with the teams virtually tied.

Mesa and Glendale met previously on Jan. 8 in Glendale with the T-Birds prevailing, 72-57. For the season, MCC (16-7, 11-5) is being led by Jayla Johnson with a 13.0 scoring average and Mykah Anderson at 10.3. GCC (4-22, 2-14) is paced by Clarissa Lopez with an 11.0 mark.

After Friday, the T-Birds close on the road at Phoenix Saturday and Scottsdale Tuesday.

The Mesa men (5-17, 3-14) will be facing a Glendale team they met just a week ago Monday. GCC (14-11, 7-9) won that contest 80-65 at home.

MCC is paced by B.J. Burries with a 15.5 scoring mark. Quincy Reece is next at 12.5. The Gauchos are led by Adam Hamilton at 16.8 points per game, followed by Eric Blackwell at 14.5.
