Stacey Begay Named ACCAC DII Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

MESA, AZ - Sophomore forward Stacey Begay (Chinle, AZ /Chinle HS) from the Mesa Community College women's basketball team was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week, for her performance from games during the week of January 10 through January 16. This is the second conference award won by a member of the women's basketball team this season; in as many weeks. Last week, Jayla Johnson was named ACCAC DII Women's Player of the Week for her performances from the week prior.

This past week Begay and the Thunderbirds won their only game in convincing fashion, 61-37 at home against Scottsdale Community College. In the win, Begay scored 12 points and had six rebounds in the win, and also added four assists and a steal. The battle between the T-Birds and Fighting Artichokes this past Saturday, was for second place in the current ACCAC DII women's basketball standings.

As a team, the T-Birds with the win moved to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in ACCAC play. The T-Birds are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA DII Women's Basketball National Poll.

The Thunderbird women return to the hardwood this coming Saturday, when they travel south to face Cochise College in an ACCAC conference clash. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.
