Leading from wire-to-wire, the Mesa women's basketball team scored a convincing, 61-37, victory over nearby rival Scottsdale Saturday afternoon at Theo Heap Gym in ACCAC action.
Jumping to a 4-0 lead, MCC never looked back, limiting SCC to its lowest scoring total of the year. The T-Birds eventually led by as many as 24 points.
With the win, Mesa improves to 10-6 and 5-4 in ACCAC play. Scottsdale falls to 9-5, 3-3.
MCC broke the game open in the third quarter, out-scoring the Artichokes, 23-10 after holding a 22-19 halftime lead.
The T-Birds were led by Stacey Begay, the only player in double figures, with 12 points. Jayla Johnson added nine and Rylee Young and Love Troup contributed eight each. Faith Diggs paced SCC with 10 points.
But it was on the boards where Mesa dominated, out-rebounding SCC, 49-31. Mykah Anderson collected a season-high 13 rebounds and Troup narrowly missed a double-double with 11 to go with her eight points.
Mesa shot 16-31 in the second half.
The T-Birds have the week off before traveling to Cochise next Saturday.
