Thunderbirds Welcome Pima Aztecs for Saturday Matinee Doubleheader

MESA, AZ - The Mesa Community College basketball teams host the Pima Aztecs on Saturday afternoon, inside of Theo Heap Gymnasium. The women's game is slated to begin at 2pm, with the men's game to follow at 4pm.

On the women's side, the Thunderbirds (5-3, 3-2 ACCAC) will face a stiff test, as they welcome the 7th ranked Lady Aztecs (9-2, 4-1 ACCAC) to town. Pima currently has a four game winning streak, where they are out-scoring their opponents 311-230. The Lady Aztecs are led by a trio who average double-figures in scoring, they are freshman Luisayde Chavez (11.5 ppg), freshman Angel Addleman (10.5 ppg), and sophomore Nikya Orange (10.5 ppg). MCC enters the contest on a two game losing streak, after falling to Central Arizona College this past Wednesday in Coolidge. The T-Birds are led by freshman Mykah Anderson, who averages 11 points per game this season.

The men's game pits two squads who are each currently facing some early struggles. Pima is a perfect 5-0 in non-conference play this year, while only playing .500 (3-3) ball in the ACCAC to this point. Mesa has had a rough start to the year; only having played in six games to this point. The T-Birds currently sport a 1-5 overall mark, going 1-4 in ACCAC play to this point. On a high note, Mesa did upset Central Arizona this past Wednesday in Coolidge, to earn their first win and their first conference win of the year. The Vaqueros are currently in a tie for third place in the conference standings.

Both games Saturday will be streamed live through T-Birds Sports Live. You can follow along at home with Live Stats for both games, as well as reading up on our Game Notes for each contest, by clicking on the links below.
