Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Community College women's basketball team fell on Saturday afternoon to Arizona Western College, by a final of 56-43 inside of Theo Heap Gymnasium.
With the loss, Mesa falls to 5-2 overall and drops their first conntest (3-1) in ACCAC action. With the victory, the Matadors improve to 10-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Mesa jumped out early on the Matadors, striking for 17 points in the first quarter, while limiting Arizona Western to just eight points.
After that, Arizona Western began to flex their muscle. AWC outscored Mesa 12-7 in the second quarter, 19-7 in the third quarter, and then closed out the game outsourcing the T-Birds 17-12.
In the loss, MCC was led in scoring by Stacey Begay, who finished with 14 points on 5-7 shooting, along with six rebounds and one assist.
The Mesa T-Birds return to action this Wednesday in Coolidge, Arizona to face the 15th ranked Central Arizona College Vaqueras. Tip time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
