Softball splits with Arizona Western on sophomore day

  Mesa, AZ – The bats were alive for Mesa in its softball 2022 finale, but it could get the T-Birds only a split of two games against Arizona Western Saturday.

  MCC scored 20 runs in the two games and had 33 hits, but split the two games, winning the first 14-8, but falling in the nightcap, 17-6. That left the T-Birds with an 11-33 record both overall and in ACCAC play.

  Game 1 Recap – Mesa got off to a torrid start, scoring 10 runs in the first two innings, The big blows were a three-run home run by Alex Reeve, her 12th of the year, and then In the second Danielle Ayaze hit  her first of the season, another three-run shot. In addition to those two Brynlee Golding, Absidee Sanchez, Kylie Wilhelms, Rachel Jesionowski and Odessa Treese all had two hits in the 17-hit attack.

  Game 2 Recap – This time it was the middle innings that made the difference as AZW scored 15 runs between the third and sixth innings. MCC put up 16 hits, led by Sanchez with four and May Obata and Jesionowski with three.
