T-Bird Track & Field makes history at Day One of NJCAA Region I Chamionship

T-Bird Track & Field made history during Day One of the 2024 NJCAA Region I Championship on Tuesday.

Both the men and women's 4x800 teams broke the school record in the event all while setting meet records simultaneously. 

The women's team composed of Taylor Jacobs,  Reanna CampbellTaylor Jacobs, & Anna Harmon smashed the previous record of 9: 24.38, finishing the event in 9:19.99. 

The men's team made up of Samuel GreenAustin RueffJorge Trujillo, and Ernest Green took down the previous record of 7:38.91, finishing in 7:35.12.

Carmella Baldwin won runner-up honors in the 3000m steeplechase as she finished in 12:25.40. Samuel Van Alstine punched his ticket for nationals in the men's 3000m steeplechase finishing in 9:44.08.

Jeremiah Reed just missed out on being region champion in the long jump as he hit 7.55m but was narrowly beaten by Nasir Tucker of Pima who jumped 7.59m. Raely Palmer came in second in the women's pole vault event as she was successful at 3.42m.

Maleah Tucker earned the region crown in the women's hammer throw (52.24m), while Maliyah Ross earned runner-up honors in the women's long jump (5.72m), and Craig Runge finished second in the men's pole vault (4.52m).

As a team the Lady T-Birds (81 points) currently sit in second place behind Central Arizona College (95 points). As for the T-Bird men (86 points) they trail first place Pima (103 points) going into day two of the event.

Events begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday at John D. Riggs Stadium, admission fee is required to enter (cash only), see pricing below.
