Men's Track & Field Wins Triton Invitational

San Diego, CA - The Thunderbirds men's track & field team won the Triton Invitational Saturday evening.

The T-Birds scored 127 points to finish ahead of runner-up Cal Poly Pomona (NCAA DII), who scored 104 points. Host school UC San Diego (NCAA DI) finished in third place with 89 points.

Event winners included Tyson Tippett in the 100m dash (10.43) and in the 200m dash (21.30), Donovan Castillo in the 400m dash (47.21), and Ernest Green in the 800m run (1:50.49 PB).

Yotuel Garcia broke his three-week-old outdoor school record for the 5000m run with a personal-best time of 14:19.92 and finished in second place.

Other second-place finishers included the 4x400m relay (3:14.54) and Jeremiah Reed in the long jump (7.51m).

Khamis Hassan was third in the 100m dash (10.57), Samuel Green was fourth in the 800m run (1:52.54 PB), Devin Jackson was fourth in the 400m hurdles (55.31 PB), and Greyson Akers was fourth in the 3000m steeplechase (9:52.70 PB), as he was just under a second from the qualifying standard.

Noah Miller was fifth in the shot put (15.84m), Ousman Jagne was sixth in the 400m dash (48.85 PB), and Javier Garcia was seventh in the 5000m run (14:59.48 PB).

The T-Birds will host the Mesa Outdoor next Friday, April 14th, at John D. Riggs Stadium on the Southern & Dobson campus.
