Mesa hosts Gateway as they look to help their playoff seeding

Saturday, October 15, 2022 - 10:00 am | Dylan DeVlieger

Both Thunderbird soccer teams will take the field tonight in their second to last game of the regular season as Gateway visits John D. Riggs Stadium.

The men's team still hold the No. 9 ranking in the country, with a 10-3-1 overall record and a 5-2-1 conference record the team sits third when it comes to playoff seeding behind top seeded Pima and Phoenix.

The Gateway men's team comes in with an 0-11 overall record, and an 0-8 conference record. They have only scored three goals thus far this season while allowing nearly five goals a game.

This contest will be paramount for Mesa if they want to have any shot of improving their playoff seeding and hosting a home playoff game.

The Lady Thunderbirds come into their contest with a 3-10 overall record, with a 3-6 conference record. They currently hold the 6th seed in the ACCAC playoff standings, they sit behind Chandler-Gilbert who have an overall record of 6-7 and a conference record of 3-6.

The four seed belongs to Paradise Valley who have a 6-6 overall record and a 3-6 conference record. For the Lady Thunderbirds to sneak into the playoffs they'll need to win out and have both Paradise Valley and Chandler Gilbert trip up down the stretch. Mesa can help their own cause as they play Chandler-Gilbert on Tuesday.

The women's team for Gateway comes in with a 1-11 overall record, with a 1-8 conference record. They're averaging less than a goal a game while giving up a little under six goals per contest.

The men's contest kicks off at 4:30 P.M. followed by the womens at 7:00 P.M. Both matches can be viewed live by CLICKING HERE.
