Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds closed out the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday evening, falling to the Glendale Gauchos 78-72 inside of Theo Heap Gymnasium.

Mesa never led in Wednesday's contest, but they did keep it close all evening. At the half, Glendale led Mesa by just two points at 35-33; following a strong comeback to end the half by the T-Birds.

In the second half, Mesa would tie the game just a few minutes in, but that is as close as they would get to the Gauchos. The story of the game was free-throws. Glendale attempted 23 shots from the charity stripe, while Mesa only had ten.

In the loss, Mesa had a well-rounded scoring effort, with five Thunderbirds finishing in double-figure scoring. Tampa Scott IV led the way with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. He also added seven rebounds and five assists on the evening. Quincy Reece chimed in with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Wednesday night was also sophomore night for the T-BIrds. BJ Burries is the lone sophomore on the squad and was unable to play due to an injury. Burries had a strong career with the T-Birds and thrived in Theo Heap Gymnasium. On the season, Burries is averaging 15.5 points per game.

The Thunderbirds hit the road for a pair of games to conclude the 2021-22 regular season. First up, a Saturday matinee at Phoenix College. Tip time is scheduled for 4 pm from 'The Bear Den'.
