Tucson, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds ended their six-game losing streak on Wednesday, with an OT upset victory over the 20th ranked Pima Aztecs 91-88.
With the victory, the Thunderbirds improve to 5-15 overall and 3-12 in ACCAC action. Following the loss, the 20th ranked Aztecs fall to 16-10 overall and fall below the .500 mark in conference play at 8-9.
In what some may call the best game of the season for the T-Birds, Mesa was forced to mount an epic second-half comeback to knock off the 20th ranked Pima Aztecs. At halftime, Mesa trailed 48-39.
During the second half, MCC outscored Pima 41-32 to even the game at 80 apiece. Then in overtime, Mesa continued their hot scoring, once again outscoring the Aztecs 11-8 to claim the 91-88 win.
Five players from the Thunderbirds finished in double-figures for scoring. BJ Burries led the way with 25 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Both Timmy Johnson and Quincy Reece finished with 15 points each.
The Thunderbirds return home this Saturday for a conference doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College. The women will get things started at 2 pm, followed by the men at 4 pm inside of Theo Heap Gymnasium.
