Pima Powers Their Way Past Mesa 84-71

MESA, AZ - The Mesa Community College men's basketball team fell to the Pima Community College Aztecs, by a final of 84-71 on Saturday afternoon inside of Theo Heap Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Mesa Thunderbirds fall to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in ACCAC play. With the victory, the Pima Aztecs improve to 9-3 overall and move above the .500 mark in conference play to 4-3.

In the first 20 minutes of play, the T-Birds struggled to shoot the ball, but remained in the game thanks in large part to shooting 50% from beyond the three-point arc. Pima took a 43-39 lead in the locker room at the half, after shooting 47% from the field. The Aztecs outrebounded the T-Birds 25-19 in the first half, and also had double the amount of second chance buckets and points in the paint than Mesa.

Pima slammed home the first bucket, just 30 seconds into the second half and never looked back. The Aztecs outscored the T-Birds 25-12 in the first 10 minutes of play, stretching their lead to as large as 23 points in the second half.

In a losing effort, the Thunderbirds were led by Tampa Scott IV's 18 points.

The T-Birds have this week off from games to focus on finals. Mesa hosts Williston State College next Saturday, December 18 at 4pm.
