Mesa Baseball's season ends in Region I Semi-finals

Monday May 6, 2024 - 12:00 p.m. | Dylan DeVlieger

Mesa Baseball's season came to an end on Friday as they were upset by the No. 4 seeded Gateway Community College, 11-1.

The T-Bird bats fell silent again on Friday as they were only able to gather one run on six hits in the loss. When MCC was able to get base runners on whether via a hit or walk they were not able to convert as they left over 12 runners on base throughout the game.

Jayce Vaughan and Sam McAleer both had productive days from the plate as they had two hits on the day, both of McAleer's hits were doubles to deep left field but it wasn't enough to get the job done.

The T-Bird defense was not as sharp as we are accustomed to seeing throughout the season, committing three errors during the game Mesa did not help their own cause.

The game was still in reach for Mesa until the seventh inning when Gateway hit two homeruns (one a three run shot and the other a grand slam) in an eight run inning all but closing the door for a T-Bird rally.

With their season coming to a close in the semifinals, Mesa finishes the year 35-22 (20-20 ACCAC), the T-Birds have not been in the Region I Finals since 2019.
