Baseball blanks Scottsdale with seven inning run-rule 10-0 win

Mesa, AZ – Faced with possible elimination from contention for the Region I playoffs, the Mesa baseball team hit a high note in a 10-0 (7) run-rule victory over Scottsdale Tuesday.

The T-Birds (25-27, 11-24) avenged two earlier losses to SCC and will face the Artichokes again Wednesday in Scottsdale at 3:00 p.m.

MCC grabbed the early lead with two runs in the first inning and never looked back.

In that opening fame, the big hit was a two-run double by Dean Bittner.

Two innings later Mesa made it 4-0 when Connor Culp hit the first of his two triples and then scored on Lucas Danielewicz' sacrifice fly.

The T-Birds broke the game open in the fifth with four more runs. Culp knocked in two with his second triple.

Chase Burke eventually ended the game on the run rule when he drove in Kaleb Herbert, who had singled, with MCC's third triple of the contest, in the seventh.

Meanwhile, Jacob Roybal, making just his first start on the mound, was moving down Scottsdale hitters. He tossed six innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits.

At the plate, Culp, Danielewicz and Herbert all had two hits.

After meeting SCC Wednesday, Mesa closes the regular season with a home-and-home series with Paradise Valley beginning Friday in Mesa at 3:00 p.m.
