Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds dropped both games Tuesday afternoon in their ACCAC doubleheader against the Cochise College Apaches. The T-Birds dropped game one 3-2 in a final 7-innings, before dropping game two 24-7 in a final 7-innings run-rule victory for the Apaches.

With the losses, Mesa falls to 19-21 overall and 8-18 in ACCAC action. The T-Birds have now lost seven straight games. With the victories, Cochise improves to 32-12 overall and 18-8 in ACCAC play.

Game 1

The first game of Tuesday's double-dip between the Apaches and T-Birds was tight throughout. Cochise struck first with a run in the top of the second inning to claim a 1-0 lead. Mesa responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to claim their first lead at 2-1. Both runs for Mesa came on a pair of sacrifices, one by Dawson Baracani and the other by Jacob Wood.

Cochise would even the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning. The Apaches then took the lead for good with their final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning to take the 3-2 win.

Dean Bittner led the T-Bird offense in game one, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Luke Brocco (3-2) took the tough-luck loss, lasting six innings while allowing three runs on eight hits, with five strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2

After a scoreless first inning, the Cochise offense came to life and would score at least one run in the next six innings, as they coasted to the 24-7 victory in a run-rule seven innings. The Apaches scored six runs in the second inning, a run in the third inning, three runs in the fourth inning, seven runs in the fifth inning, five runs in the sixth inning, and two runs in the seventh.

The Mesa offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and then would score one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Three T-Birds homered in game two; Dean Bittner, Tate Satterfield, and Connor Culp. Marshall Williams and Dawson Baracani were the lone T-Birds to finish with multiple hits in the second game against Cochise.

The Thunderbirds return to the diamond Wednesday for a non-conference game against Park University Gilbert's JV team. The first pitch from MCC is scheduled for 3 pm.
