Mesa, AZ – South Mountain scored seven runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 5-1 deficit and went on to top Mesa, 9-5, in ACCAC baseball Tuesday.
MCC (16-14, 6-10) had grabbed the early lead with a three-run third inning, with RBI base hits by Connor Culp, Thomas Schreffler and Drew Baracani.
But the T-Birds bats went cold as Mesa go no hits after one out in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, the Cougars (17-16, 7-10) utilized two MCC errors and hit two home runs in their big seventh.
The loss ruined a fine effort on the mound by starter Luke Brocco who went six innings, allowing just one run on six hits.
For the T-Birds, Schreffler and Baracani each had two hits and an RBI, while Dean Bittner hit safely twice as did Marshall Williams, with one of his being a double.
The two teams meet again Wednesday at SMCC.
