(RV) Mesa baseball sweeps Eastern Arizona

  Mesa, AZ – Led by Marshall Williams who had four total hits and four RBIs, and Luke Brocco who pitched seven strong innings in the second game, Mesa, which is receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II national poll, swept a doubleheader from Eastern Arizona Tuesday, 9-4 (7) and 7-1.

  The wins improved MCC to 14-9 overall and 6-8 in ACCAC play. EAC is 8-16, 1-11.

GAME ONE

  Tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the fourth, the T-Birds scored four times, with Cade Malone and Kaleb Herbert both delivering two-run singles.

  Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Mesa broke the game open with four more runs, the big blow being a three-run double by Marshall.

  Mitchell Torres got the win, going four effective innings, allowing two runs and striking out three,

GAME TWO

  It was again a big inning that propelled the T-Birds, this time the second, when they scored five times on just two hits, utilizing six Gila Monster walks.

  Meanwhile, Brocco was shuting down EAC. He allowed just one run and three hits over the seven innings, striking out six and walking none.

  Williams collected three hits, driving in a run. Thomas Shreffler added two hits, while Dawson Baracani and Connor Culp knocked in two apiece.

  MCC is off until Friday when it hosts fourth-ranked Madison (Wisc.) in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
