(#17) Scottsdale sweeps (RV) Mesa baseball

Mesa, AZ – Scottsdale completed a home-and-home sweep of Mesa baseball with a 6-4 win over the T-Birds at MCC field Wednesday.

SCC (16-3, 7-3 and ranked 17th in the nation) had beaten Mesa (12-7, 4-6, receiving votes in the national poll), 10-7 on Tuesday in Scottsdale.

On Wednesday the Artichokes grabbed a quick, 4-0, lead In the first inning, largely on a three-run home run by Michael Zinter. That came off starter Colton Vercoe who allowed the first five hitters he faced to reach base. However, he settled down and blanked SCC for the next five innings.

Mesa answered quickly with two runs of its own in the bottom of the first. Those came on a two-run double by Lucas Danielewicz.

After Scottsdale extended its lead to 6-2 with two in the seventh, the T-Birds scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth but could get no closer.

On Tuesday, SCC scored three in the bottom of the fourth after Mesa had struck for five in the top of the frame.

In that one Connor Culp had three hits, including a double and a triple with two RBIs. Danielewicz, Tate Satterfield and Chase Burke each also had two hits.

The T-Birds travel to Paradise Valley Friday for the next action.
