Glendale, AZ - The Glendale Gauchos rallied from Friday's loss, to hand the Mesa Thunderbirds their first loss of the season on Saturday, 7-2.

With the loss, the Thunderbirds; who are currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA DII Baseball National Poll, fall to 8-1 and are now 1-1 in ACCAC action. With the victory, the Gauchos improve to 6-6-1 overall and pick up their first conference win to improve to 1-1 in ACCAC play.

The roles reversed on Saturday for the Thunderbirds and Gauchos. On Friday afternoon, Mesa topped Glendale 5-3 at MCC. On Saturday, the same two teams met in Glendale, with the home team once again coming out on top.

Mesa got on the board first, when Cal Walsh led the inning off with a single. He was later come around to score the game's first run on a fielder's choice. Walsh finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate.

Glendale would respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the second inning, to even the game at 1-1. The Gauchos then opened the game up with a run in the third inning, a three-run fifth inning, and they added another run in the sixth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

Mesa would get on the board again in the top of the eighth inning. Cade Malone had a one-out single and would later come around to score on a Dawson Baracani sac fly. That's as close as Mesa would get, as the Gauchos would tack on another run in the bottom half of the inning to seal the 7-2 victory.

The Thunderbirds return home this Tuesday to host Chandler-Gilbert in ACCAC action. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
