In a nail-biting softball game played on April 23rd, 2024, at Mesa Community College (MCC), the Gateway Geckos managed to pull off a 7-6 victory over the T-Birds. The game started with a strong pitching by Gateway's Kelly Katalbas and Aryka Ortega who held Mesa scoreless through the first five innings. Mesa wouldn't go down without a fight. They managed to score six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, fueled by multiple hits and Gateway errors. However, they fell short by one run as Gateway held on to secure a thrilling victory.
Ariana Lloyd led the Gateway offense with a stellar 2-for-2 performance, including two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Rebekka Nance and Alexandra Martinez also had strong outings, each contributing two RBIs. Nance went 1-for-3 and Martinez went 2-for-4 scoring one run. Also contributing was Jessica Walace who went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI and Gabby Cicchillo who was 1-for-2 with a run. Pitching duties were shared by Kelly Katalbas and Aryka Ortega, with Ortega earning the win.
