MCC Alumni Mike Brown wins NBA Coach of the Year

Sacramento Kings head coach and former MCC student athlete Mike Brown from 1988-90, was named the 2022-23 Coach of the Year in the NBA. Brown was inducted into the Mesa Community College Hall of Fame in 2022.

Brown was the first coach to win the award under a unanimous vote; the award has been in existence since 1962-63. This is Brown's second COY award, he won in the 2008-09 season as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. 

This season Brown led the Kings to a 48-34 record and the No. 3 seed in the NBA playoffs, bringing the team back to the postseason for the first time since 2003. The Kings have been a success so far in the playoffs as they currently hold a 2-0 series lead over the defending champion Golden State Warriors.
