7 MCC teams in action Tuesday.

Monday, February 27, 2022 - 8:00 am | Dylan DeVlieger

The last day of February will be a busy one for MCC athletics as seven of their teams will be in action.

The men's golf team will finish up their second day of the Pima Invitational.

The men and women tennis teams will be in action as they will host Paradise Valley Community College starting at 1:30 p.m. For the men this will be their first conference match of the season.

The softball team will hit the road for their second road trip in a row as they travel to Scottsdale. The Lady T-Birds have an 11-5 overall record and 5-5 in conference play. They have won 2 of their last 5. The SCC softball team is 4-6 overall and in conference play, they have won 3 of their last 5. The first game of the scheduled doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the second beginning at 3:00 p.m.

The MCC baseball team will also take on Scottsdale Tuesday as they welcome the Fighting Artichokes to campus. The Thunderbirds hold a 12-7 record (2-6 ACCAC). They're winners of 4 of their last 5 but have not won a conference game since Feb. 15. SCC baseball's team comes in with a 6-8 overall record and a 4-4 conference record. They are winners of 2 of their last 5. First pitch for the game will be at 3:00 p.m.

The men's and women's basketball teams will travel to South Mountain for their final regular season game of the season.

The men still have the ability to control their fate when it comes to the playoffs. With a win they will secure the 4th and final playoff spot and will travel to Cochise in the first round of the playoffs. The last time the T-Birds tangoed with South Mountain, the Cougars took the win in the first conference game of the season, 65-53.

The Lady T-Birds find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they will be fighting to hold onto the 2nd seed in the postseason Tuesday. With their loss on Saturday to Scottsdale, MCC must win Tuesday in order to guarantee themselves the No. 2 seed and home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. If they lose and Scottsdale beats Cochise College, the Fighting Artichokes will jump the Thunderbirds for the 2nd seed and the T-Birds will fall to the 3rd seed.

The men's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. while the women will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
