Tucson, AZ – Competing against the University of Arizona and Grand Canyon University, the Mesa men's and women's cross country teams got in another good round of competition against strong opponents to prepare for the up-coming junior college season, at the U of A's Dave Murray invitational Friday.

Although both teams finished third in the event held at the Randolph North Golf Course, the day went well overall.

For the men, Flynn Fuhrmann and Andrew McCumber led the way finishing 11th and 12th respectively, both defeating numerous runners from the two four-year schools. Fuhrmann was clocked in 23:37.56 for the 7K course and McCumber 23:39.64.

Geoffrey Grossthal and Jalen Chee also finished among the top 20 in the 43-person race. Grossthal was 18th in 24:29.78 and Chee 20th with a time of 24:30.68.

The MCC women were paced by Ellis Collins who placed ninth among 31 runners with a 19:21.00 clocking for the 5K course. Maggie Orr was 20th at 20:47.13.

The T-Birds will be off next weekend and resume competition with the first of two events over their own home course, the ACCAC Championship on Sept. 28.
