Women's cross country second at Region I championship

  Tucson, AZ – With four runners earning all-region honors the Mesa women's cross country team took second place at the NJCAA Region I Championship held Friday at Silverlake Park. MCC had five runners earn all-region honors.

  Mesa finished with 50 points, trailing only Central Arizona which scored 24. Paradise Valley was third with 62.

  Ellis Collins was MCC's top finisher, placing sixth with a 5k time of 19:04.3.

  Just slightly behind Collins was Tanaeya Johnson in seventh place, clocked in 19:20.1. Both earned second team all-region honors.

  Mesa also took 11th and 12th places with Gabby Wiswell 11th in 19:50.0 and Elisia Escanuela 12th with a time of 19:52.7. Both received third team all-region honors. In addition, Maggie Orr was third team all-region with a 14th place finish in 20:02.0.

  Next up for MCC is the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Albuquerque, N.M., Nov. 9. It will be held on the same course where Mesa opened the season at the New Mexico State Lobo Invitational.
