3 Set Sweep for #5 Mesa Over Chandler-Gilbert

Mesa, AZ - "It was a nice team win," said Head Coach Megan Taylor after her #5 Mesa Thunderbirds volleyball team defeated the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes in straight sets Wednesday night.

The T-Birds jumped out in set one to a 12-6 advantage, forcing the Coyotes to call a timeout.  Mesa didn't relent, as they finished off set one with a 25-20 win.

Set two began with the Coyotes in control, as they jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead.  Mesa however clawed back, eventually tying the set at 13.  Both sides would exchange leads till point 19, then it was Mesa who broke free and outscored the Coyotes, 6-2, to finish set two with a 25-21 win.

It was all T-Birds in set three as Mesa jumped out to a 6-1 lead, pushing it to 12-4 and finalizing the match with a 25-14 victory.

Lauren Palmer led the way for Mesa as she had seven kills to go along with seven aces.  Hayden Nielsen went 6-8 hitting, a .750 hitting percentage.  Sara Hansen finished with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage.

The T-Birds are now 3-1 on the season and will head to Tucson this coming Friday to play the Pima Aztecs at 7 pm.
