Chandler, AZ - There was a feeling excitement in the air that Coach Matthew Werle was on the verge of his first victory as head coach of the Mesa volleyball team.  With how confident his team played against the 2014 national champs on Wednesday, it seemed as though facing a slim roster like Chandler-Gilbert would have produce the first "W" for Coach Werle.

Mesa just did not show up Friday night the same way they showed up on Wednesday night, as host Chandler-Gilbert handed Mesa its second loss of the season in four sets.

Both teams went back and forth in the first set before the Coyotes pulled away with a 25-22 win.  The second set is when the wheels fell off for the T-Birds.  They lost any type of momentum and Chandler-Gilbert took advantage, taking set two 25-11.

That's when Werle took out some of his starters, giving time to some younger players.  With their backs against the wall, Mesa put points together and won set three, 25-18.

Heading into the fourth set, Werle stuck with the group that won set three.  They battled, being up four points at certain times.  The Coyotes battled back, taking the fourth set 26-24.

For Mesa, Breanna Scott(Fr., Casa Grande, AZ, Chandler H.S.) finished with 12 kills and 12 kills.  Kahri Harrion(So., Gilbert, AZ, Perry H.S.) had 32 assists.

Mesa will be back home next Wednesday, Sept. 2 against South Mountain.  That game will be broadcast on T-Birds Sports Live. Continue to check the website for further updates.
