Volleyball can't sustain momentum, drops match to Artichokes

Box score

Mesa, AZ- The Thunderbirds jumped out to a first set victory against the Scottsdale Artichokes at Theo Heap Gym Wednesday night but Mesa wasn't able to sustain that momentum. They dropped the matched three sets to one.

Mackenzie King, pictured right(So, Gilbert, AZ, Campo Verde H.S.) led the T-Birds with 14 kills on 29 swings. It was King who continually found open holes in the Artichoke defense that helped Mesa win the first set.

Like a majority of the winless matches Mesa has played this season, they quickly lost control and made unforced errors resulting in three straight set wins for Scottsdale.

Mariah Buchanan(Fr., Victorville, CA, Poston Butte H.S.) had a strong match with 32 assists with Breanna Royer(So., Idalia, ID, Wray H.S.) finishing with 15 digs.

Mesa will be off for a week before they host Arizona Western next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
