Women's Tennis National Tournament DAY 1 Results

TYLER, Texas – All of Mesa's players at the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship advanced after the first day of play, although only three had to actually play due to byes.  

MCC will continue play in all flights Monday morning at Tyler J.C.  Khahn Huynh (Fr. Vietnam) defeated Lorraine Banimataku, of New Mexico Military, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Naa Ankrah (Fr., Amsterdam, Netherlands, won 6-0, 6-0 over Morgan Tennant, of Harford, at No. 4 and the No. 3 doubles team of Hanna Nelson (Fr., Mesa, AZ) and Julia Ortiz won over Jami Daugherty and Taylor Miller, of Meridian, 6-0, 6-0.  

Singles players receiving byes were No. 1 Emily Chang (Fr., Sao Paulo, Brazl) (seeded 4 th ), No. 3 Yolena Carlon (Fr., Mesa, AZ) (5 th ), No. 5 Nelson (3 rd ) and No. 6 Maria Garduno (Fr. San Luis Potosi, Mexico) (2 nd ).  

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Chang and Naa and the No. 2 team of Carlon and Garduno also moved on through byes.
