Men's, women's tennis rankings soar in national polls

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The national rankings for both the Mesa men's and women's tennis teams took a solid jump this week in polls released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The MCC men jumped from No. 9 in the country to No. 5, the highest ranking the T-Birds have ever had since moving to Division I. Meanwhile, the women moved into tenth place after not being ranked at all.

The Mesa men are 5-0 this spring, including a 6-3 victory over NCAA Division II Colorado State-Pueblo. The MCC women are 5-4 after recently taking down NCAA Divison II Southwest Minnesota State, 5-4. Two of their four loses are to NCAA schools.

The men will be back in action Saturday when they visit NCAA Western New Mexico.

The women next play Thursday in an ACCAC match at Glendale.
