  TYLER, AZ - Three Mesa women's tennis singles players, as well as one doubles team, remained unbeaten and advanced to the quarter-finals of the NJCAA championships on Day 2 at Tyler J.C.

  No. 2 Desiree Jackson, No. 4 Julia Marcenco and No. 5 Danielle Huss all won their matches Monday as did Marcenco and Huss at No. 2 doubles.

  Jackson took down seventh-seeded Daniela Vanko, of ASA, 6-3, 7-6. Marcenco, who is seeded fifth,  topped Lori Karras, of Eastern Arizona, 6-3, 6-1 and Huss, seeded sixth, stopped Orianna Lovera, of Laredo, 6-1, 6-0.

  Seventh-seeded Huss and Marcenco downed Michelle Chemaily and Katie Delgado, of Temple, 6-1, 6-2.

  Karah Hedquist suffered her first loss of the tournament, falling at No. 3 singles to third-seeded Jennifer Weissmann, of State College of Florida, 2-6, 1-6 and Desiree Curiel lost at No. 6 singles to third-seeded Thais Castiglione, of State College of Florida at Jacksonville, 1-6, 0-6.

  Haley Stermon was eliminated in the consolation bracket at No. 1 singles by Andrea Alanis, of Harford, 2-8.

  Jackson and Sydney Madsen lost in No. 1 singles consolation play to Shawnee-Ann Bresford and Helga Pinones-Hattenhoff, of Seminole State, to be eliminated.

  Curiel and Hequist won a consolation match at No. 3 singles over Jeanne Bechtold and Maria Rodriguez, of Lewis and Clark, 8-3.

  The tournament continues until Friday.
