7 Goal Rampage for Mesa Women's Soccer to Start Season

Phoenix, AZ - What a way to start a season for the Mesa Thunderbirds women's soccer team as they hung a 7-0 victory on the South Mountain Cougars Thursday afternoon in their season opener.

Going for the hat-trick was freshman forward Annabella Bara, knotching two goals in the first half with her third coming as the lone Mesa goal in the second half.

The T-Birds netted six goals in the first period alone, with two coming from Berkeley Larsen and the other two coming from Mercedes Serrano and Mayleen Corral.  Corral ended up assisting two of the seven goals while Kyla Galdos had four assists on the afternoon, tying the school record for a single game. The original record was set by Ana Morris in 2013, also against South Mountain.

In goal, Rebekah Norris recorded the shutout, with two saves.

Mesa will play this coming Saturday night at home at 5:30 pm vs Gateway.
