Women's soccer down South Mountain, 2-0

Phoenix, AZ - Both teams went scoreless for the first half but Mesa finally put two goals on the board in the second half to defeat the South Mountain Cougars, 2-0, at South Mountain.

Finally, at the 23:21 mark, Celeste Cunningham(So., Goodyear, AZ, Verrado H.S.) nailed down Mesa's first goal as she knocked it in off a long rebound coming from a corner kick.  She used her left foot, lofting it over the Cougar goalkeep into the back left part of the goal.

Both teams felt the agony of the heat and partial humidity at first but it did South Mountain in throughout the second half, only playing with two healthy bench players which Mesa took advantage of.

The T-Birds second goal came from Sierra Connell(Fr., Bullhead City, AZ, Mohave H.S.) as she was able to nestle herself on the backside of a Brianna Gonzalez(Fr., Yuma, AZ, Kofa H.S.) pass that led to an easy kick in, giving Mesa their two goals for the morning.

Mesa is now 1-0 on the season and they look to next week at home against Arizona Western and Cochise College.

Both those games will be live video streamed on T-Birds Sports Live.
