Rohner strikes late, lifts women's soccer past Phoenix, 1-0

Box score

PHOENIX, AZ - Tawsi Rohner, pictured right, (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert H.S.) has been on a roll lately and Tuesday night her goal in the 86th minute spelled the difference as Mesa stunned Phoenix, 1-0, in a make-up of a weather-postponed contest.

Last week Rohner had a hat trick in an 8-0 win over South Mountain. Tuesday her team-leading sixth goal of the year, with an assist from Ana Morris (So., Mesa, AZ/Desert Ridge H.S.) was all the T-Birds needed in securing a victory that could play an important role in MCC's push to earn a Region I playoff berth.

With Danielle Torres (So., Yuma, AZ/Kofa H.S.) and the Mesa defense limiting the Bears to just three shots, the T-Birds improved to 5-3-4 and are now tied for sixth place with Arizona Western. PC is now one slot behind Mesa at 5-4-2.

Just ahead is another key match-up as MCC hosts Cochise Thursday. The Apaches are in fifth place at 5-3-1 and Mesa will be looking to avenge a 1-0 setback early in the season in Douglas, AZ.

That will be an 8:00 p.m. start at John D. Riggs Stadium.
