Box score

MESA, AZ - First half goals by Ana Morris (So., Mesa, AZ/Desert Ridge H.S.) and Victoria McClelland, pictured right, (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo/Gilbert (AZ) H.S.) helped lift the Mesa women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Chandler-Gilbert Thursday night.

With the win MCC improved to 3-2-2 while CGCC is now 4-3-1.

Morris tallied first when she chipped one over the head of CGCC goalkeeper Tiana Pretzer at the 31:06 mark of the first half with an assist going to Jordan Drake (So., Grand Junction, Colo/Grand Junction H.S.).

Then, just 4:19 before halftime, McClelland slipped one past Pretzer who had come out to challenge. Drake recorded another assist.

Meanwhile, the MCC defense and goalkeeper Danielle Torres (So., Yuma, AZ/Kofa H.S.) did an outstanding job of keeping the Coyotes away from the goal. Torres made five stops and MCC out-shot Chandler-Gilbert, 15-9.

Mesa has now surrendered just four goals in seven games.

The T-Birds will take on Pima in Tucson Saturday. The game is set for the Kino Sports Complex North Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
