Women's Golf Leads by One After Scottsdale Invitational First Day

Sun City, AZ - The Mesa women's golf team held a slim, one shot margin over Pima after the first day of the Scottsdale Invitational at the Hillcrest Golf Club Monday.

MCC is trying to protect its 70-match ACCAC winning streak against a PCC team that challenged several times a year ago but could not unseat the T-Birds.

Mesa's Haley Kapanicas fired a three-under-par 69 to share the first round lead with Pima's Desiree Hong. Those two were nine shots clear of the rest of the field.  Megan Fusak had an 83 and Madison Tjaden an 84 for the T-Birds who shot a team total 343.

The event concludes Tuesday.
