Women's golf up by 27 after day one of Lady Thunderbird Classic

  MESA, AZ - With Chartta Thongbai (So., Gilbert, AZ/Dobson H.S.) posting a three-under par 69, the Mesa women grabbed a 27-shot lead over South Mountain at the Lady Thunderbird Classic with a first day 300. SMCC was at 327 and Chandler-Gilbert 353. The event is being played at the Dobson Ranch G.C.

  The round was a career-low for Thongbai at Mesa and led three MCC players as the three leaders. 

  Sierra Myerscough (So., Champaign, Ill/St. Thomas More H.S.) had an even-par 72 and Brianna Medrano (Fr., Queen Creek, AZ/Gilbert H.S.) third at 79.

  Jill Harvison (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) was tied for fourth with an 80.

  The event concludes Thursday.
