Women's golf climbs to fourth place at NJCAA nationals after round two

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Mesa women's golf team managed to move up to fourth place with a total score of 643 in Round Two of the 2014 National Junior College Women's Championship Tuesday. 

Daytona State College, once again, led the field with a score of 588 out of the 16-team event. Seminole State-FL stood at 608 while McLennan carded 640, three strokes ahead of MCC.

The T-Birds were led by Charlatta Thongbai, pictured right, (Fr., Gilbert, Ariz./Dobson), who shot a 74, with a total score of 153 and was in seventh place individually. Jacquelyn Porman (Fr., Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler) carded an 80, only eight strokes down from Thongbai with 161 and was tied for 18th. Sarah Kaye (Fr., Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) shot an 81 while Sierra Meyerscough (So., Champaign, Ill./St. Thomas) recorded an 84, totaling both of their scores at 163 and 166. Chelsie Peterson (Fr., Tempe, Ariz./Marcos De Niza) carded an 88, standing at 185 for two days.

The T-Birds will tee off first at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday on the LPGA International's Hills Course.
