Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball will advance to the Region I - ACCAC DII Championship game as they defeated the Phoenix College Bears Wednesday night, 66-48.
No stranger to the conference championship game, this will be the 12th championship game out of 13 years for Mesa Head Coach Kori Stephenson. And going against a familiar foe in the Pima Aztecs, who beat South Mountain Wednesday night, 77-65.
An all around team effort, three Mesa players scored in double-figures as Stacey Begay scored 12 points coming off the bench while Myka Taliman and Jacey Salabiye each scored 10 points.
Double-digits in rebounding was sophomore guard Raenesha Willis, who pulled down five offensive rebounds and seven defensive boards.
Mesa shot well from the field all night as they were 29-69 overall shooting, going 5-9 from the free-throw stripe.
With the win, Mesa will now play in the Region I - ACCAC DII Championship game against the Pima Aztecs this coming Saturday, March 7th at 7 pm at Theo Heap Gym.
