Janelle Barkey Scores 16 Points Off the Bench to Help Mesa Beat Pima, 64-49

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team took home a big conference victory Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Pima Aztecs, 64-49, at Theo Heap Gym.

Leading the T-Birds off the bench was sophomore Janelle Barkey, who poured in 16 points on 7-10 shooting.

Mesa had four total players score in double-figures, with Zyan Smith, Jayla Johnson and Jacey Salabiye each scoring 13 points.  Smith and Salabiye also pulled down 10 rebounds each for the Birds.

On the afternoon, Mesa shot 32 percent (21-65) from the field, connecting on six three-pointers and shooting 16-23 (69%) from the free-throw line.

With the win, Mesa improves to 9-5 on the season with a 6-1 conference record.  The T-Birds will be on the road the next three games as they travel to Eastern Arizona College, Scottsdale and Chandler-Gilbert and won't play at home till January 18th when they host South Mountain.
