Lackluster 2nd Half Dooms Mesa Basketball in Defeat to Eastern AZ, 69-58
Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team lost Wednesday night to the Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters, 69-58, in ACCAC action.
What started out well for Mesa to begin, did not finish well as the T-Birds looked like two different teams from the first half to the second half.
Mesa jumped out to an 18-15 lead to begin the first quarter. The T-Birds then bumped it up to an 11 point advantage at the seven minute mark of the second quarter. But like a flash in the pan, Eastern had cut the Mesa lead to one and eventually went into halftime with a 38-37 lead.
A six point third quarter was all she wrote for Mesa as the T-Birds just couldn't execute while the Gila Monsters extended its lead to as much as 16 in the fourth quarter.
With the defeat, Mesa moves to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The T-Birds will play at home this coming Saturday at 7 pm against the Scottsdale Artichokes.
