#1 (6) Mesa Women's Basketball Advances to Region I - ACCAC Championship Game with 95-70 Victory Over PC Bears

Mesa, AZ - The #1 (6) Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team defeated the #4 Phoenix College Bears Tuesday night in the Region I - ACCAC DII Semi-Final game, 95-70, to advance to the championship game Saturday night.

Mesa hung a wire-to-wire victory on the Bears as the T-Birds jumped out in the first quarter, taking a quick 7-2 advantage.  Mesa connected on its first six three-pointers on the night to help take a 48-36 lead into halftime.  In the half, Mesa hit 7-9 three-pointers.

In the second half, the Bears made the first shot of the third, a three-pointer but Mesa ended up going on a 14-5 run in the first five minutes to stretch its lead to 62-41.  In the fourth quarter, Mesa closed out the game by hitting 12-14 free-throws, shooting 26-31 (83.9%) total for the game.

Diamond Fuller finished with a double-double, with 15 points and 13 rebounds.  Leah Goodman led all scorers with 19 points with Anessa Glenn scoring 16 points and pulling down nine rebounds.  Cheyanne Begay finished with 15 points as well.

On the night, Mesa shot 41.7 percent (30-72) from the field and 9-16 (56.3%) from three-pointer.

The T-Birds will now play in the Region I - ACCAC DII Championship game against the #2 Pima Aztecs on Saturday, March 10th at Theo Heap Gym.  Tip off will be at 7 pm.
