T-Birds Place Wire to Wire Victory on Chesapeake, 62-43

Harrison, AR - Mesa definitely wasn't in any mood to feel sorry for themselves after yesterday's first round loss, as they bounced back and beat Chesapeake College, 62-43.

Mesa jumped ahead right out of the gate as they perfectly executed their zone offense, with Quynne Huggins finding Allies Fuller, who finished the play off with a power layup.

The T-Birds took a commanding 21-9 first quarter lead.  Mesa continued the pressure as Huggins connected on a three-pointer and Tori Lloyd made a jumper to make it a 26-10 game.  At the end of the half, Anessa Glenn made six of Mesa's last seven points, to take a commanding 32-14 halftime lead.

Allies Fuller set the tone heading into the second half, as she bingo-bangoed a three-pointer, just her second three-pointer on the season.  The Chesapeake defender left Fuller wide open at the top of the key, thinking that Fuller was just a "post" player.  On the ensuing Flapjack possession, Fuller blocked a layup attempt and finished on the offensive side with a layup.

A three-pointer by Gianna Grumbien at the end of the quarter finished off a 22 point quarter for Mesa.

Running the show all afternoon for Mesa was Takara Wade, who finished with an amazing 14 rebounds and eight points in 32 minutes of action.  Fuller again led Mesa in points with 15, while both Anessa Glenn and Quynne Huggins each finished with 11 points.

Mesa had major contribution from their bench as they scored 17 points, compared to just one point for Chesapeake.

The T-Birds advance in the consolation round and will play tomorrow at the same time as today, 1 pm CT, 11 AZ Time, against Parkland College out of Champaign, Illinois.
