Tenacious Defense Leads Mesa Over Glendale, 68-39

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds used tough defense to take down the Glendale Gauchos, 68-39, Wednesday night at Theo Heap Gym.

Mesa was led by guard Tori Lloyd, who scored 20 points and pulled four rebounds.  Also scoring in double figures was Anessa Glenn, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds while Allies Fuller finished with 10 points.

The T-Birds jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but Glendale mounted an 10-0 run of their own, forcing Kori Stephenson to call a timeout to settle things down.

After the timeout, Mesa finished the first quarter on a 12-2 run, leading after one quarter, 19-12.

A big second quarter helped Mesa lengthen its lead, as they went into halftime with a 41-23 advantage.

On the night, the T-Birds dominated the boards as they outrebounded the Gauchos 51-34 while Mesa forced 15 turnovers that turned into 13 T-Bird points.  Mesa had 21 bench points and 18 second chance points.

The T-Birds move to 6-0 on the season, 2-0 in the ACCAC.  Mesa will be back at home on December against Tohono O'Odham, tip off at 5:30 p.m.
