Mesa, AZ- Though short handed and playing with only eight players, Mesa battled hard but fell to Central Arizona College Wednesday night, 68-62.
Briana Clah led the way for the T-Birds who scored 23 points with seven rebounds. Janessa Aukward chipped in with 15 points and four rebounds.
Mesa at one point in the first quarter had a 14-11 over Central with four minutes left in the first quarter but the Vaqueras went on an 11-4 run to finish off the quarter and take a 22-16 lead.
The T-Birds did manage to get the lead back in the second quarter when Aukward connected on a three at the shot clock buzzer to take 27-26 advantage.
But once again Central went on a 9-4 run to end the half, with Central leading at half, 35-31.
A big third quarter sunk the T-Birds into a 12 point hole but Mesa was able to battle back and close the gap to three but fouls in the end determined the final score.
Mesa will play at Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday at 2 p.m.
