Women's BBall survive 4th quarter Vancouver rally, win in OT, 66-62

Scottsdale, AZ- Mesa overcame a tremendous fourth quarter come back attempt by Vancouver Island to beat the Mariners in overtime, 66-62.

Janessa Aukward lead the T-Birds throughout the whole game, especially coming up big in the overtime as she scored 25 points for the game, 10 of which came in the overtime.  Aukward connected on a timely three pointer with less than 30 seconds to play in the OT to give a four point lead, then sealing the deal with two clutch free throws to extend Mesa's lead to 66-60.

Mesa controlled the first three quarters of the game, as they led the whole game, with their biggest lead coming at the beginning of the fourth quarter, 47-28.   But the Mariners didn't go quietly into the night as they mounted a 24 point fourth quarter come back to tie the game at 55 and send it to overtime.

Vancouver only led once in the whole game and that was in the overtime.

Briana Clah came up big for Mesa as she, along with Aukward, played all 45 minutes of the game.  Clah had nine points with eight rebounds and six assists.  Rebecca Rudd also had timely buckets for Mesa as she scored eights.

The Mesa post players outplayed the Mariners posts as Destinee Wright, Allies Fuller and Natalie Stilwell combined for 27 total rebounds and 13 points.  Stilwell finished with three blocks while Wright pulled down eight rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive side.

Mesa will have a week break before playing at home against Central Arizona January 6th at Theo Heap Gym.  Tip off at 5:30 p.m.
