T-Birds fall short in shoot out with Pima, 76-69

Tucson, AZ- In what seemed like a playoff type atmosphere, the Mesa Thunderbirds and Pima Aztecs battled from beginning to the end, exchanging big shot after big shot but after it was all said and done, the Aztecs came out on top, 76-69.

Mesa jumped out to an early, taking the early first quarter lead 24-21.  Both teams in the quarter looked like they were in a three point contest, as Mesa went 5-13 from three in the first half while the Aztecs connected on 9-14.  

Briana Clah finished with 11 points in the half, shooting 3-7 from the field, 2-5 from three and 3-4 from the foul line.  Taylor Reed finished the half with 10 points and five rebounds.   

Pima strung a couple good possessions together near the end of the first half to take a four point halftime lead, 41-37.

Both teams continued to exchange punches in the second half as Mesa outscored the Aztecs 15-12.  Pima didn't shoot well in the second half (7-31, .22%) but they shot an incredible 21-24(.85%) at the free throw line, going 4-4 in the first half.  Mesa missed five free throws, shooting 7-12(.58%).

Clah was the high scorer for the T-Birds with 25, pulling down seven rebounds with four steals.  Reed finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.   Both Reed and Clah played all 40 minutes of the game. 

Mesa moves to 5-6 on the season,  4-2 in the ACCAC.  They will play one final game at Scottsdale on Wednesday before a two week break.
