Women's Basketball drop home opener to Cochise, 66-55

Mesa, AZ- Mesa women's basketball dropped their home opener Wednesday night at Theo Heap Gym to Cochise College, 66-55.

Briana Clah finished with a team high 12 points while also pulling down three rebounds and three steals. 

The Thunderbirds jumped out to a first quarter lead, 11-1 but the Apaches quickly climbed back into the game, closing the T-Bird lead to 16-13.  Mesa ended the first quarter with a two point lead, 18-16.

Mesa shot 41 percent from the field but only went 3-13 (23.1%) from three.  The T-Birds did have 31 points off turnovers and outscored Cochise in the paint, 24-16.

The T-Birds and Apaches were tied at 47 with 8 minutes left in the fourth quarter but over the next five minutes, Cochise went on a 18-2 run and eventually took the 66-55 victory. 

With the loss, Mesa moves to 0-3 on the season.  The T-Birds head to Midland, TX for two games then they will be back home one week from tonight to host Arizona Western at 5:30 p.m.
