Stillwell, Aukward, Clah lead women's basketball in stomping South Mountain

Mesa, AZ-The T-Birds hung a wire to wire victory on the winless South Moutain Cougars Saturday afternoon at Theo Heap Gym, 75-27.

Mesa was led primarily by their younger bench players, as Rebecca Rudd(So., Gilbert, AZ, Highland H.S.) led the way in the first half with seven points, Natalie Stilwell(Fr., Fountain Hills, AZ, Fountain Hills H.S.) scoring six of her career high eight points in the first half to go along with two blocks, also a career high.

Mesa shot 46.9 percent from the field and finished the half on 10-3 run with a 36-12 halftime lead.

Then it was shooting guard Janessa Aukward(Fr., Laveen, AZ, Sierra Linda H.S.) that lite up the second half for the T-Birds, scoring all 14 of her points in the second frame, shooting 4-5 from three.  Aukward also pulled down four rebounds for Mesa as the T-Birds dominated the boards all afternoon, outrebounding the Cougars, 49-19.

Briana Clah(Fr., Chinle, AZ, Many Farms H.S.) came up big as well for Mesa, scoring eight points with five rebounds, and five assists.

For the game, Mesa shot 46.9 percent from the field, shooting 15-32 in both the first and second halves.

Mesa still sits atop the ACCAC division two standings with a 12-5 record.  They are now 17-7 overall.

The T-Birds will be down in Tucson on Wednesday, February 11th for a huge matchup against the Pima Aztecs, who Mesa fell to earlier in the season at home on a buzzer beater.
