Poor shooting, turnovers, doom women in 50-45 loss at Glendale

GLENDALE, AZ - On a night where the Mesa women seemed to have a golden opportunity to open a two-game lead over Pima in Division II of the ACCAC, the T-Birds sufferd a poor night and fell to Glendale for the first time in ten games, 50-45.

MCC (16-7, 11-5) trailed most of the contest, but took a brief lead midway throught the second half. Mesa, however, was unable to maintain the margin. The loss broke a five-game win streak.

The T-Birds took their last lead at 36-35 with 10:34 to play on a put back by Kylie Herd (So., Phoenix, AZ/Arcadia H.S.).

Down 40-39 with 2:49 to go, the Gauchos (12-12, 8-8) stuck a dagger in MCC in the form of a desperation, 30-foot three-pointer by Catherine Montes as the shot clock wound down.

Still, MCC rallied to within 46-45 on a jumper by Brianna Clah (Fr., Chinle, AZ/Many Farms H.S.) with 33 seconds left. GCC mamde four of five free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

No statistics were supplied, but Herd led Mesa with 12 points and Taylor Reed (Fr., Kingman, AZ/Kingman H.S.) had ten.
